If you are fishing in the Chesapeake Bay then weather is not that much of a factor with these big sportfishing boats. They can usually take anything the Bay has to offer up, unless there is a tropical storm brewing or some other major storm.

When it comes to fishing the offshore waters of Virginia Beach your Captain must take much more care in judging the weather and the high seas that can kick up. Rarely does a trip get canceled due to weather but it does happen.

Seas could be to rough, there could be lightning or other unstable weather like severe thunderstorms that would make a Captain decide to stay in port. When that happens the Captain is just looking out for the clients safety. There will always be a better day to fish.
