He has fished local waters from the Eastern Shore, Chesapeake Bay, and Virginia Beach to Cape Hatteras, North Carolina for over 30 years. Captain Keith's vast fishing experience also includes the waters of Barbados, Turks and Caicos, Bahamas, Bermuda, Jamaica, Puerto Rico and Key West. An extensive fishing resume to say the least. Captain Keith specializes in catching large fish, and utilizes the latest reports from sea surface temperature and altimetry to target the best fishing areas. He is known for bringing the Kite Fishing technique to the Tidewater area. For the past ten years he has been perfecting and testing new ways to use this system in order to catch the largest of every species. Captain Keith has his mate prep all the bait the night before the trip. We slow thaw the ballyhoo on ice; we then apply a mixture of kosher salt and baking soda to bothsides of the baitfish. This toughens the baits and helps them retain their bioluminescence. All our leaders are hand crimped and made “wind on”, allowing the angler to reel the fish up to the side of the boat with less leadering. This allows the mate to get a quicker gaff shot with less time for the fish to break off. We pay attention to small details like this to provide big results. This why we had one of two grand slams caught in Virginia waters last August. A grand slam is the pinnacle of offshore fishing. Grand slam means that the boat had a white marlin, a blue marlin and a sailfish on the same day. We also had a citation 74lb yellow fin tuna on the same trip. We released all the billfish to live another day. |
